Can I get instant car insurance cover?

Instant insurance cover is available providing you have a debit or credit card, if you wish to pay by direct debit you will also need to have your bank details to hand.

Insurance to drive someone else’s car

Driving a car that doesn’t belong to you is sometimes available, this depends on your policy and will be listed on your certificate of motor insurance, driving other cars is usually restricted to third party only and will have restrictions, always check the wording on your policy, if in doubt contact Hastings Direct quoting your policy number.

Can I use my company car driving towards my no claims discount NCD.

This is sometimes possible if you have surrendered the company car within the last year are claim free and can provide proof from your employer.

Can I have a Courtesy Car following an accident?

If you take out comprehensive car insurance cover and you have the vehicle repaired at an approved repair centre then it is possible to get the use of a hire car but this is not guaranteed and is subject to availability. If you are involved in a non fault accident and have opted to take out legal protection then you will receive legal assistance to help you recover costs of a hire car whilst yours is off the road

Do you charge any other fees?

Yes, Hastings do make additional administration fees but these are clearly detailed in Hastings Direct terms and conditions.

What if I change my mind or wish to cancel my insurance?

When you purchase your policy, we will send your initial policy documents in the post. On receipt of these, you then have a 14 day cooling off period for reflection. If you cancel during that period, the insurer will make a charge in proportion to the period of cover you have enjoyed. (If cover has not started, no charge will be made by the insurer). If you cancel after the 14 day cooling off period, the charge applied by the insurer depends upon the period of cover.


For full details concerning cancellation and charges, please refer to your policy booklet (which we make available to view, print or download via the link to Important Documents when we provide your online quotation). However, in either of the above cases you may not get any refund if a claim has been made, or is likely to be made on the policy. If you are paying by instalments, the full annual premium may still be due. In addition to the above, we apply our own administration charge to cover our costs, see Hastings Direct terms and conditions.

Can I protect my no claims bonus?

Providing you have at least 4 years claim free it is usually possible to protect this in the event of an at fault accident or claim, but bear in mind only the discount % is protected there are no guarantees that the premium won’t increase.

Do I get Windscreen cover as standard?

Yes when you take out a comprehensive car insurance policy with Hastings Direct, subject to an excess. Full details will be contained within your policy documents.

Do you offer Legal protection ?

Legal protection is available as an add on to your car insurance policy, it is not provided as standard and there are additional charges for this extra cover.

Do you include Breakdown Recovery with my Car Insurance Policy?

Breakdown cover is available for an additional charge, it is not included as standard with car insurance policies.

Do you include Personal Accident Cover with my Car Insurance Policy?

Personal accident cover is not included as standard but is available as an optional extra, please read the terms and conditions to ensure you take out the right level of cover for your needs.
